Everyone likes to have whiter teeth as it gives us a more confident smile. But how much whiter is the question you need to address. The best person to answer that would be your dentist. Whitening your teeth at home by yourself with over the counter whiteners is not as good as getting it done by a dentist.
You first need to get your teeth checked thoroughly by your dentist and make sure that they are all in good shape. Whiteners do not fall under FDA purview so it is good to get it done professionally at a clinic.
Also, whitening may not be a good idea if you have mouth ulcers as the chemicals in the whitening agent will cause the ulcers to inflame. Keep in mind that whitening will not change the colour of artificial teeth and might leave you with mismatched teeth. Stains caused by use of antibiotics cannot be camouflaged either.
You can consider yourself an ideal candidate for whitening only if you are blessed with a healthy set of natural teeth and no mouth ulcers. But, the younger you are the faster your teeth will return to their original colour.
There are a couple of you can get it done: laser whitening and home whitening. Home whitening is definitely cheaper but takes a few weeks to see results while laser whitening can be done in one hour and the results are immediately visible.
The procedure involves coating your gums with a protective material that is cured with light and then a strong whitening gel is applied. Light is once again used to activate the whitener to make sure that it penetrates deeply for fast results.
Whiter teeth will boost your self-confidence and will make you want to flash your pearly whites more often!
